Herb Magee Closing in On All-Time Division II Winning Record

Jan. 23, 2007

PHILADELPHIA, January 22, 2007 -

Philadelphia University Head Men's Basketball Coach Herb Magee, who was recently nominated to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, could tie the all-time Division II coaching record this Wednesday, January 24, when the Rams go up against Holy Family University.

With just one more victory, Coach Magee will pull even with Clarence "Big House" Gaines' record of 828 wins on the DII all-time coaches list. Magee could break that record and become the top DII coach in NCAA history as early as Saturday, January 27, at Post University in Waterbury, CT.

The legendary Coach Magee is known both for his own stellar playing record and his extraordinary streak of 827 wins - and counting - during his 40-year coaching career. All of his wins, both as a player and coach, have been earned at Philadelphia University.

The Rams next game is Wednesday, January 24, at 8 p.m. at Holy Family University on Frankford Avenue in Northeast Philadelphia.
